Ah yes, there's nothing better than self-discovery.
Seriously.
I know it's quite strange, but anyway, here is the tumblr blog,
with all the quizzes done, so as not to cramp my writing style here.
Haha

short sweet simple

Last night was great, managed to write the first part of my script.
Yes, I'm going to send the script in for short+sweet, a playwriting competition! and more.
So, keeping it short and sweet is a big challenge and headache for me,
But oh well!
Today at the hospital, darren's dad asked me how's life
I said so far so good.
Then he said, why could be worse?
I said, no, it could and will be better.
Yes, such an optimistic outlook on life.
But I truly believe it.

Glad you stayed over yesterday jo:) thanks for the encouragement and help while I was writing!

First of all, I'd like to say thank you to all for your reassuring msgs and cals, and visits to my mom who had her op in NUH today. *HUGS* It means a lot.

I'm dead tired at the end of the day, but a goof hot shower does the trick and so jo and i (she's staying over tonight!:) are going to do a write-in..; staying up for her to finish her novel editing and for me to finish my play's script. Yes, we're well prepared with food for supper and all.

2 blog-worthy moments of today:
1) We went back to NP for lunch after we cfigured SP is too big and we didn't want to look boliao looking at maps. So we went to FMS and ohmygosh it looks way better. and the new foodcourt is a major plus with the subway, mad jack and waffletown inside. YUmmy. Jer, where were you? :( Sorry we had to leave to rush back to the hospital. Anyway, guess who we saw first? Elon's fav. Kok Kee!
2) Jo and I were stalked at the supermarket! SO FREAKY! practically ran out of there. EEE.

And so I followed my mom to NUH, saw her through the admission, through her change into the green hospital clothes, kept her company in between visits from my aunts, uncles and church ppl.

Tomorrow;s going to be a long day.

So where have I been?
I've been at art camp with 3-6 year olds. SO CUTE LA, seriously.
Mostly international school kids and it has been fun playing with paints.
It gets really dirty.

Hmm. Tuesday went to visit Jo after work. Prata and MeePok!
Then walked to take bus to YCK.
Thursday, same thing. well, not really. Jo's grandma cooked extra for me.
So went to Jo's house instead for dinner after work.

Aim: Lithe body LOL

Ran today. After all, there's a dancing-singing-acting role in the musical and if i get that, damn I'll run more and more each day. LOL.
Next week, monday - mom's op.
There's an issue over who the contact person should be cuz the hospital allows only one.
Dad has work,
I have no car to rush in times of emergency (BOOHOO)
Anyway, mom lately has been talking like this:
If anything happens, you need to know how to......(fill in the blank)
Sigh.

Yes yes I know I've disappeared for far too long.
Must join back with all my dear ppl again.
Callme! or we talk at ren's bday.

Finally the busy part of the month is gone and so now I can concentrate on other things. It's true that without worry, anxiety or stress, we can take the time to think properly instead of rushing through life.

My eyesight is becoming a pain and I'm terribly sorry to all whom I have seen but didn't recognise till later! OMG sorrry!
Sigh.

ArtZine's Feb edition is up! And while some of you are enjoying really nice vday dinners + dates out (BOOHOO for me), the rest can have singles party (yumm!) and do a million other art related (or not) things. There's many plays for couples to watch so I guess singles can watch them too.. with a bunch of really close friends. YAY

Jan. 30th, 2009

IKEAAA

My brothers have fallen sick.
The environment people visited the whole block telling people to be careful because there are reported cases of dengue in the area. Gee, thanks, it's not as if I can be on ninja-alert and attack a mosquito when I see one. SIGH.
Mom can't afford to fall sick because of her upcoming operation, I have the callbacks on Sat for the musical and AHHH:(

Anyway, let's talk about happier things -
Went to tampines ikea with jo yesterday to check out sofabeds and get jo's cousin's pressent and mom's candles. It was really funny cuz jo and I went around to see all the "pre-designed" rooms and making comments on how our future apartment will look like. HAHAHA. Luckily we prefer pretty much the same things except she's into blue and i'm more reddish. After doing the 15 sec test stretch on the comfy sofas and beds, (okayla so we did the 30min stretch test instead hahahaha) some things reminded us of certain people so we reminisced as we went along... all the way to the ikea restaurant! for swedish meatballs (i was very hungry) and jo's spagg and bread rolls. YUM. talked about the books & screenplay that jo's writing, and the play i'm writing and lots of other inbetween topics and then in our usual spontaneity and craziness, we decided to head to... the airport! so we took 27 down. walked walked walked 9omgosh the airport's so quiet) and we contemplated just staying over at the airport for fun one day, we even walked around the crown corpthorne which was very dark and clubby. A bit too dark for me I think. Anyways, we went to our fav coffee place - coffeebean! the plush sofas won me over instantly. Waited for the bus and guess who we saw? Jer! Oh gosh I was so blind without my lenses so I didn't really notice it was him till he walked towards us and jo said, ''is that jeremy?' LOL. sorryyyy! Must catch up with you soon love.

Long long bus ride home, but satisfying day no doubt.

after cny

Ah yes I know I haven't been here for quite some time.
2 reasons:
1) Been planning for the play I'm writing (details soon!) :)
2) And been reading up on lots of theatre stuff, going through old plays etc.

And the preliminary research for the play is turning out rather well, I feel.
Everytime I find out something new, I realise that I can twist this here and change that and tadah! AWESOMENESS.

Lately, I'm into Pepper Lunch (yes I know so slow to catch on right) and TIMSUM. oh gosh. I had some at hong kong cafe at yishun last week and it was scrumptious. YUMMMM

A new day

As one door closes, another door opens.
The door that closes brings an end to old problems.
Goodbye the old, Ring in the new!
A new door opens and this time, you're just welcoming the change with open arms.
All sadness is washed away quickly as excitement takes over, leaving you beaming and twinkly-eyed.

A last and final farewell, fond memories tuck them away.
Heads up for better days.
Damn what a morning.

I GOT IN!

OH MY GOSH I GOT IN I GOT IN I GOT IN!

"Congratulations on your successful audition for Paul The Musical!"

OH YAY OH YAY I'm really elated! :) WHOOPEE!
Getting the script and songs on 31st Jan.

I remember the audition day so clearly. I was supposed to meet vincent but change of plans, met Jo at her house instead, we walked down to hougang point  for bubble tea and snacks before I took the bus to YCK and train all the way to St Mary's.

Haha and thank you jo and jer for letting me scream with excitement over the phone (i was seriously unable to control the joy) HAHAHA and for having faith in me that it'll all go great. LOVES and see you both soon!

(no subject)

You don't fool me anymore.
I give up, I'm not going to grouse anymore.
See you at CNY. If you go for the celebrations, that is.
What celebrations? Well, history prevails so I'm sure you'll get your updates from someone else instead. Since she seems to always know things first before I do.

Jan. 20th, 2009

Let it loose!

Hmm. I was just reading other people's poems and well at first they were hard for me to read because it was so irregular.. Maybe it's because I like reading them aloud because I'm very particular that it must sound nice when it is said. There's always a rhythm, and each has its own purpose. The speeding up represents somthing that's about to happen. The constant rhythm makes it easier to read and more comfortable for non-literature people to read. I hate reading these 4 line poems like:

Dawn.
One, two, three, graze.
Pretty sure.
Abiding.

When you're done reading it, you're like WTH right? No way. I don't want that for my poems so that's why I've decided not to do any free verse (vers libre).

Anyways, got more to explore and perhaps I'll do a crazy one. For fun. HAHA

(no subject)

I can't take it.
Day in, day out, the same things.
I need something new.
And CNY is great for new things.

Jan. 19th, 2009

Updated!

Updated the poems I wrote.

Cheerios, McNuggets and Gumdrops,
- Val

Ehh I heard you say, 'Nonsense la Val'. rahhh. LOL

BTW BTW BTW NEWSFLASH! The heart shaped pillow at IKEA is now only $5.90! I know I know sorry la I just always wanted that pillow. Visited IKEA just a few days back. GLEE. I think I wanna makeover my room. grin.

Degrees and Pedigrees.

Don't get your knickers in a twist.

So I've resolved myself (mentally) to settling for the double major in Journalism and PR. Why? Cuz PR is sustainable and Journalism is courageous and so TADAH! I have my perfect safe with a dangerous streak course. Kinda upset cuz I can't squeeze Art Management in until my Masters. GAH. But one step at a time, right? I WILL GET THERE!

Considered the Psychology degree as well. Haha so I can understand all you crazy people. HAHA kidding. But I was thinking of Art Therapy?? Maybe not so popular in Singapore yet. But I can SO see myself in my office. HEE. Okay stop dreaming right. Okay la.

now you see it, now you dont

And so begins Val's second day without contact lens.
Reading gets frustrating so I'm gonna stick to writing instead.
Penned a few poems yesterday, I know I planned on writing one every day but I'm kinda behind schedule now! =X
CNY shopping later tonight with sam and maybe moon. YAY
Anyways, Jo call me soon to talk about uni.

Loves!

This morning, I woke up at 8am and followed dad and the boys to church.
We were super early (sigh dad) so we had breakfast - prata! first.
Everything was going dmoothly until we reached church and my eyes was kinda dry so I rushed to the toilet to put my eyedrop. And then all hell broke loose.
My eyes became smarting and teared like crazy, it was as if I was crying! crapcrapcrap. No way is anyone seeing me like this.. After a long while, I rushed out to the canteen to tell dad I don't think I can go for mass like this. So Antonio walked me out to get a cab and I sped off home. Super pain and so now contact lens is a big no no for the next 24 hours.

More later.

A whisper

Something I read today:

"have you ever been in a moment where from the moment you woke up to the moment you are about to fall asleep, you wish that there was this special someone who will just give you a call or even sms you and yet at the same time knowing how much you miss that special someone or simply to let that person know how important he/she is to you, you simply refuse to give in."

I have. Oh gosh, if only you knew. Thinking, remembering, picking up the phone, typing/dialling halfway only to sigh and put the phone back down. More times than you can imagine. A few tries didn't hurt. It wasn't avoidance. It was just the lack of response that was de-motivating. And strangely I realised I'm accustomed to expecting the silence that would follow. But please go ahead and make my day with your spontaneity and (good) surprises.

Love.

Toss the coin

So life goes on.
Not exactly the way we want it to,
But nevertheless, it carries on.
Amuck and ruthless, if you have no control.
Or Tight and boring, if you hold back.
What is life without spontaneity and surprises?
Absolutely nothing.
The checklist of Must Have's and dreams.
Dreams that keep stacking up, it seems.
For only some of our wildest dreams come true.
Don't close your eyes, don't fall into the sweet slumber,
That calls you to forget, that drifts you further and further,
Into the mist where fake smiles lie and tears run dry.
A voice rings out clear and true as she cries for you
Wake up, you're lost, give the coin a final toss,
And decide, after all, you're the boss.

Operation

My mom's surgery has been postponed because she has anemia. She has to take lots of beef, iron stuff first. Tentative date: 16 Feb. at NUH. So please pray for her and whoever's free on that day, can join me there cuz I'll be sending her there and will wait around for her till the surgery's done.
Thanks love.

Surprises galore

I was seated at the Woodlands library's cafe today, comfortable in a plush red sofa and reading my latest book. Suddenly, someone calls, ''Val!''. I looked up and in slow-mo this was what it was like:

... Puma shoes
... Dark jeans
... Black collared tee
... Silver watch (hmm looked way too familiar)
... Transparent box file in hand (hmm)

And then I caught hold of myself. No way, he couldn't have found me here.
Instead, I stared up at my cousin, Chriswayne, who was smiling back at me.
''Surprised?" he asked.
Yes definitely, was my answer.

Btw on a side note, something strange is happening.
Why are people suddenly msging me saying I crossed their mind or they were doing something/was out somewhere/heard a song and thought of me? But worst still, why has everyone else but you, msged/called me to tell me that they thought of me? Save me the wait, do something please.
=(

Going to watch Fallout tonight 8pm at esplanade. Unfortunately there's only 1 ticket.

Ps. Jo babe, I'm really keen on the Malacca trip thingy. YAY! :) Anyone else wanna go for short trip holiday in Feb/March?

Love.

Because my mind was pre-occupied with thoughts.
Do I ever cross your mind?

Freshly printed

Val just updated the poems she wrote here.

Cheerios, McNuggets and Fries,
Val

Just the one word

I am a writer and so the best way I can possibly record anything for keeps and to think about later is by writing it down. The only times I stood by my window to think while feeling the cool breeze - a rather calming effect, I might add:

1)

2)

3)

Perhaps I can't say it all here. It's already written somewhere else.
----------------------------------------------------------------

One word said it all - bold, capitalised and underlined.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Past

Today I dug back into my past,
Notes scribbled, Moments savoured.

Here's 2 that I found.

-----------------------------------------------

Digging up bones, they often say,
Revives old memories and old ways,
The danger of falling back is great,
But one must look back to clear the slate.

How have you been? Tarry not.
What needs change? Forget not.
Encase your thoughts, encrust them in clay,
And keep them safe for a better day.

Plot your journey, make it clear,
So definite your course, so easier you'll steer,
Through the next hills and valleys,
With shortcuts and back-end alleys.

- Val

------------------------------------------------

Behind those eyes she knew so well,
Lay thoughts she could not tell.
Emotions strapped and kept in check,
Lay hidden beneath tons of tact.

Those eyes gazed at her, thoughtful and searing,
'If only,' she mused, 'It'll be a perfect pairing'.
His voice filtered through, she flushed pink -
All knowing, he insisted she needed to think.

Pulled by the hand, she followed in a daze,
As they cleverly maneuvered through the maze,
Eyes stared straight onto the back of whom she didn't want to lose,
Sighing softly, remembering the last the time they had a little snooze.

- Val

The greatest day

 Greatest Day by Take That

Today this could be
the greatest day of our lives
Before it all ends,
before we run out of time

Stay close to me
Stay close to me
Watch the world come alive tonight
Stay close to me

Tonight this could be
the greatest night of our lives
Lets make a new start
The future is ours to find

Can you see it
Can you see it in my eyes
Can you feel it now
Can you hold it in your arms tonight
Tonight

Oh stay close to me (Hold On)
Stay close to me
Watch the world come alive tonight
Stay close me

Ooh hold your head high, (Hold On)
Arms open wide
Yea the world starts to come alive
when you stay close to me

Today this could be
the greatest day of our lives
Today this could be
the greatest day of our lives

Ooh and the world comes alive
and the world comes alive
and the world comes alive oh oh oooooh

Stay close to me hold on
Stay close to me
Watch the world come alive tonight

Novelista

I read a novel this afternoon. And today, like the female lead in the novel, my heart betrayed me. While my mind was screaming, 'ARE YOU NUTS?", my heart did a cartwheel and who knows what other gravity-defying stunts. God help me please with this one.

Jan. 7th, 2009

Forgot something?

I flicked the switch and my room was in total darkness.
I crept into bed, pulled the blanklet up and fell asleep,
Floating between dreams and figments of the past day,
And then I remembered something and woke up,
Sitting up on the bed, eyes wide in shock.

'Please don't tell me I missed it,' I prayed,
while I threw off the blanket and rushed to my table (in the dark)
I grabbed the calendar and flipped the lights on.
And my worst fears dissapated as quickly as it came.
I didn't miss the screening. It's tomorrow.

Perhaps only few will agree with me that they know how it feels like.
Waking up, realising that you have stories to be done,
phonecalls to make, emails to send out, stories to edit,
interviews to schedule and questions to think of.

Story ideas that come to you in the middle of the night,
and from experience, you know that you shouldn't wait till morning
to write it all down, cuz most probably you'd have forgotten it.
So there I sat, in the middle of the night, writing my story.

Blimey.

Some girlie books are really annoying because they write the way they speak: noisy, endless chattering. And then there's the other type of girlie books that are well written, from the view of a well-respected woman, usually a fashionista or high-ranked lady. This kind I like. Perhaps it's because it propels me into a world I hope to be in eventually, but can't right now.

"Many people believe that what you do on New Year's Day sets the tone for your entire year. How did you spend the first day of 2009? Do you think it will influence the rest of the year?" - Livejournal.

Shucks at midnight, we were playing mahjong at lons. LOL.
Anyway, I only started winning a bit after midnight, so I guess that's a good sign eh?

First day of 2009, I woke up at 8am having slept over at lon's with shin and jo. I felt strangely awake, considering that we slept at 4am+. Got up, Jo and I walked over to SFX for new year's mass:) All my favourite xmas songs were sung at mass, it was fantastic. I thought I'd be falling asleep during mass but that didn't happen. The homily struck a chord with me - it was about the difference between new year's wishes and resolutions.

Wish: I want to get 4A's this year.
Resolution: I will study an hour extra everyday so that I can be better prepared for the exams.

Wish: I want to have a closer relationship with God.
Resolution: I will devote quiet time everyday to pray, read the bible and reflect.

Wish: I wish my family will spend more time together.
Resolution: I will plan a monthly outing for the family to spend time together.

After mass, we went to sgoon gardens macs for breakfast! YUM! went to meet mom and bros at bishan then headed to uncle conrad's house for new year's lunch. YUM! again.
